Who we are

Yaba (“Yet Another Budget App”) is a free monthly budget tracker for families and households, available at yabaapp.ca. We are based in Canada and subject to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What we collect

We collect only what is necessary to run the app:

  • Email address and password — used to create and secure your account via Supabase Auth. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. We never see your password.
  • Budget data you enter — income, expenses, allowances, and settings you add to the app. This is stored in your private Supabase account and is only accessible to you.
  • Scanned statements and receipts — photos you choose to upload are sent to the Claude AI API (Anthropic) for transaction extraction and then immediately discarded. We do not store your statement images.
  • Usage analytics — anonymised page views and interaction events via Google Analytics (GA4). This includes approximate location (country/city), device type, and which features you use. No financial data is included.

What we do NOT collect

  • Banking credentials or account numbers — Yaba never connects to your bank
  • Credit card numbers or payment information
  • Your name, phone number, or address
  • Any data from third-party ad networks — there are no ads in Yaba

How we use your data

  • To provide and maintain the Yaba service
  • To authenticate your account and protect your budget data
  • To improve the app using anonymised usage patterns
  • We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties for marketing.

Yaba uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

Data retention

Your account data (email, budget entries) is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us. Analytics data is retained by Google for 14 months per their default GA4 settings.

Your rights

Under PIPEDA and (where applicable) GDPR, you have the right to:
  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and data
  • Withdraw consent at any time

Cookies

Yaba uses cookies only for authentication (to keep you signed in) and for Google Analytics. No advertising or tracking cookies are used.

Children

Yaba is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of Yaba after changes constitutes acceptance.
